Resmetirom in MASH/NASH with Liver Fibrosis
The New England Journal of Medicine
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), recently renamed as metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH), is a rapidly growing disease worldwide and is a major reason for liver transplantation. Despite its increasing burden, there is no approved pharmacologic treatment for MASH with liver fibrosis. Recently, in a phase 3 randomized controlled trial, resmetirom, a liver-directed, thyroid hormone receptor beta (THR-β)–selective agonist, has been used to treat patients with MASH and liver fibrosis.  read more

Risankizumab versus Ustekinumab for Crohn's Disease: When less is more
The New England Journal of Medicine
While a number of advanced therapies are becoming available for the management of inflammatory bowel disease, the appropriate positioning of these therapies in a treatment algorithm is difficult because of limited head-to-head trials. Ustekinumab, a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody targets IL12 and IL23 by blocking the p40 subunit shared by both of these cytokines while risankizumab is a p19 blocking antibody that blocks the action of IL23 only. read more

Hepatitis E virus: From innate sensing to adaptive immune responses

Nature Reviews
Hepatitis E virus infections are a major cause of acute viral hepatitis worldwide. In immunocompetent individuals, most remain asymptomatic, but can cause up to 30% mortality in pregnant women, become chronic in immunocompromised patients, and cause extrahepatic manifestations. The host immune response to different HEV genotypes is critical for infection outcomes. Current vaccines and future research are discussed. read more
